Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with unsigned UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with Luke from unsigned band Citylightz to find out more…
Who is in the band, how did you meet, where are you from and how did you come up with the band name?
B, Luke, Ad, James and Tom… Luke and Ad went to school together and started playing guitar at the same time. Been in a band together for 15+ years… Luke met B in college where the 3 of us first formed Citylightz at a house party half off our bonce! We’ve been Rockstars ever since!
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
Our musical influences have never changed and are so diverse from Guns N’ Roses to Kanye West to Oasis to Rage Against the Machine! Music is universal… we like to look past genres and just enjoy music!
How would you describe your sound?
They’re calling it “Rock N Road”… We like that!
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
James’ Tune! It’s about living life doing what you love… “How you supposed to die if you ain’t ever lived?” true story, Luke always plays the wrong 1st chord in rehearsals at sometimes at gigs too!
What’s your local music scene like?
The Indie Scene is a little samey but some good bands doing some things… The rap scene is popping right now though… we are kinda caught in the middle!
What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
Camper Calling festival in August, Coventry Empire September and a few upcoming shows, we have a single lined up every month until September… Just throwing ourselves at the world to see what comes back!
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
Please don’t make us argue with each other! We suggested covering a song… we’ve been arguing about it for a week… almost ended the band!
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
Oh my! I am not sure how many blog friendly stories we have you know being Rockstars n all! Every gig is a laugh we enjoy ourselves on the stage and involve the audience as much as possible… come down and see what the fuss is about!
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
As long as you’re still listening we’re not going anywhere!
You can find out more about Citylightz via Apple Music, Facebook, Instagram, SoundCloud, Spotify, TikTok, Twitter or YouTube.
UPDATE: On 9th January 2022, Citylightz announced that Adam will no longer playing with the band. We wish him all the best for the future.
