Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with unsigned UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with unsigned Dublin band Hook to find out more…
Who is in the band?
Eoin O’Donnell – guitars, vocals; Danny Spelman – bass, vocals; Morgan O’Brien – drums.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
We were and are heavily influenced by 80’s punk and new wave. So – Talking Heads, the Cure, the Queers. Right now Neil Young’s new album and Big Thief are on the playlist.
How would you describe your sound?
New wave indie (with some punk).
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
Our debut single is out now. It’s called “I love the world because you’re in it”. It’s got the new wave indie sound but we think it sounds great!!
What’s your local music scene like?
Dublin has loads of venues, gigs, bands and artists. It’s vibrant and busy. Never a dull moment.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
Promote our new singles and play as many gigs as possible.
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
We work very hard to make our songs sounds as good as they can. We write all the time. We believe that our music is awesome. We’re usually humble but nobody else is blowing our trumpet yet!!
You can find out more about Hook via Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, Twitter or YouTube.
UPDATE: Danny is no longer performing with Hook, and now Niamh Carmody is on the vocals and bass. We wish Danny all the best for the future.
