Music interview: Junodream

Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with unsigned UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with unsigned band Junodream to find out more…

Who is in the band, how did you meet, where are you from and how did you come up with the band name?
The band consists of Ed Vyvyan (Vocals), Tom Rea (Guitar), Dougal Gray (Guitar), Jake Gidley (Drums), and Will Ryder (Bass). We met in a geography lesson when we were 13 and decided we wanted to be musicians, even though some of us couldn’t play instruments. After uni, we spent a year in isolation (nearish Andover) writing and self-recording. It was intimate. Last year, we evolved into Junodream. We stole our name from a Pink Floyd b-side, sort of.

Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
The crossover was a lot of dad-rock as well as all the usual big names. Ed loves a sea-shanty, you won’t get far on a tour before he screams out one of those. We’re into a lot of shoegaze material and space-rock.

How would you describe your sound?
Space-rock.

What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
The whole EP is called “Isn’t It Lovely (To Be Alone)” and it’s still being released as we speak. It’s generally been influenced by a shit year living in London, but also finding pockets of humour in the bleakness.

What’s your local music scene like?
There’s a real south-London punk inspired scene going on with the likes of Shame, Sorry, Pottery, Goat Girl etc.

What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
We’ve had a massive boost this year from everything that’s gone well, so we’re already recording and finishing our next few releases. Main aim is to gig a hell of a lot and we’ve got a few European dates already in there.

Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
Dr. Dre (hit us up).

Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
Tom once thought it would be a good idea to do a solo in the crowd and jumped off the side of a high stage. But his lead was way too short and he couldn’t get back up so he did a legendary behind one of the subwoofers. What a guy.

What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
We’re green, clean and Junodream.
