Music interview: Mollie Coddled

Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with unsigned UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with unsigned Leeds based singer Mollie Coddled to find out more…

Where are you from and how did you first get into music?
I’m from York but moved to Leeds last year for Uni! I first picked up guitar in school as a hobby and that’s where it all started!

Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
I only started writing music around 2 years ago but my main influences have stayed the same; being Clairo and Rex Orange County but more recently adding in influence from newer artists like Still Woozy.

How would you describe your sound?
It changes from song to song but Dreamy Lofi Pop!

What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
My new single is called “One More Day’ and despite it sounding like my happiest song so far, the lyrics definitely hold a deeper meaning. The song started out as a very mellow and melancholy song but I got bored one day and completely changed it haha. There was definitely some Still Woozy influences in there.

What’s your local music scene like?
I mean at the moment there isn’t one haha! But Leeds in general has a very vibrant and youthful music scene as it’s a university city! But I would say there are only a handful of us here on the Bedroom Pop scene.

What do you have planned for the next 12 months?
More music! More music! More music! (and a Headliner in Leeds at Headrow House on Jan 29th 2021!) 😀

Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
My favourite band has been Easy Life for around 2 years so it would definitely be an honour to do a collaboration with them.

Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
I once got a bit too drunk before my set and ended up opening and closing with the same song but luckily I don’t think anyone noticed haha!

What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
I’m fully self produced from my bedroom studio! I write, record and produce all of my tunes myself (which is why it takes me a little longer than the average artist between releases but it’s worth the wait I promise!) ❤
