Independent business: The Dorothy Days

Hello!

We are Rachel and Jamie from The Dorothy Days and we make and sell individual pieces inspired by the coast and countryside of South England. We run the shop alongside juggling parenting our very active toddler, Iris and baby Vivienne!

We sell everything from pure wool knitted hats to hand poured soy wax candles and from vintage prints to crafting kits.

We are hugely inspired by the quote from William Morris who was an English textile designer and artist. He said, “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”, with this quote in mind we have filled our shop with objects which are beautiful, useful or, both.

We aim to create products which are in opposition to ‘fast fashion’ which is hugely damaging to our planet which is when clothing or products are bought and used for a short period of time before they are disposed of as they fall out of fashion or they are bad quality.

We create cool, fun pieces which are timeless so don’t go out of style and are a joy to own!

Our knitted hats which are made from 100% wool and come in a huge range of colours, you can even design your own colour combination and we will knit it for you!

Our craft kits have been a huge hit especially during the pandemic with people placing value on learning new skills – we have quite a range already and hope to continue to add new lines of craft kits to our shop soon. We have lots of ideas in the pipeline!

We now sell our yarns as well as knitting with them so people can create their own designs from our yarns. It has been so fun seeing people make everything from knitted jumpers to woven wall art with our yarns!
