Music interview: BARBUDO

Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with unsigned UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with unsigned Portsmouth duo BARBUDO to find out more…

Who is in the duo, how did you meet, where are you from and how did you come up with the name?
We are two brothers, Ben and Harry Stanworth, from Portsmouth. Ben started the project and he came up with the name. Barbudo means bearded in Spanish. Ben has a beard…

Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
The Beatles, The Isley Brothers, Quincy Jones. We were influenced by them then and we are influenced by them now!

How would you describe your sound?
Nu-eyed Funk.

What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
Our latest single is called My Only. We were influenced by Classic soul and RnB tracks; things like Smokey Robinson and Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band.

What’s your local music scene like?
There are some great bands and promoters locally. It’s a welcoming community that puts on both local and out of town bands, but is very supportive.

What do you have planned for the next 12 months?
We have two more singles penned for release in the coming months and are already recording the follow up tracks. So more tunes on the way.

Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
So many people! We’d love to work with someone like Pharrell Williams or Thundercat.

Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
We once almost played on the same stage as Michael Bublé.

What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
We have fiercer eye brows than Cara Delevingne.
