Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with unsigned UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with unsigned Gloucestershire artist Owen Rogers to find out more…
Where are you from and how did you first get into music?
I reside from the desolate countryside barrons of north Gloucestershire, much of my interest in music came from discussing it with friends overseas, this and also finding music from my dad.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
My largest influences now are an assortment of cult 2000s singer songwriter folk acts like Bright Eyes, Mountain Goats, Bon Iver, Elliott Smith.
How would you describe your sound?
Cosy music for people who would like peace of mind for a short while.
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
My latest release is “Countryside Collection and Moon” by Owen Rogers, all of which was written whilst I was stuck at home for the duration of lockdown. I have spent a lot of time feeling stuck in one place and I have an abundance of mental health issues as a result so music is really one of the only things that stops me going insane. I hope my music can help other people as well.
What’s your local music scene like?
Non existant, lots of washed up 80s alt acts and hocky pocky whiltzer drinking anthems.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months?
I’m working on a new record which a producer friend overseas and a few musical friends I have both locally and internationally.
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
I could list hundreds really…
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
If I had a live performance i could tell you. I take my guitar out to parks and play to myself and sing quietly. It’s not really funny but I sometimes go up to Bristol and it’s quite an artsy scene up there so every now and then photographers at school or whatever might ask to take my photo which is sweet.
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
Nothing about me specifically however I would like to remind them they’re doing great no matter what they think.
You can find out more about Owen via Bandcamp, Instagram, SoundCloud or Spotify.
UPDATE: Owen is now based in Brighton in East Sussex.
