Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with unsigned UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with unsigned London based singer Alice Pisano to find out more…
Where are you from and how did you first get into music?
I was born and grew up in Ferrara, a foggy little town in the north of Italy, and now I live in London. Music is in my blood, I’ve always been passionate about it since I was very little. I studied classical piano as a kid, then went on to study singing and guitar. I sang in a few bands as a teenager, but it wasn’t until I was 19 that I discovered songwriting… and when I did, it was a revelation!
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
My musical taste has always been very eclectic… I grew up listening to Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Fleetwood Mac, but also to a lot of pop/indie/rock music. John Mayer, Coldplay, Lana Del Rey are some of my favourite artists of all times. Lately I’ve been listening to Astrid S, Elina, Saint Raymond, Julia Michaels.
How would you describe your sound?
Pop, with a mix of acoustic and electronic elements.
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
My latest single is called ‘Open Up’ and I wrote it about how I wish love was… simple and uplifting! The kind of love that, at least in my experience, is not so easy to find. Having always written about heartbreak, I really wanted this song to be a positive anthem, a reminder that it’s possible to meet someone who loves you and accepts you for who you are, someone who feels like home.
What’s your local music scene like?
London has a buzzing, very exciting music scene. There are so many amazing artists, the standard is so high… I’ve always found it stimulating and it’s always motivated me to improve myself. There are a lot of opportunities, if you’re ready to seize them and work hard.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months?
I’ll be releasing a new single in the autumn, and I will continue to write and plan new single releases. On the live side, I’m playing a couple of UK festivals in the next few months: 110 Above and Liverpool Sound City. I honestly can’t wait, they are going to be my first gigs since the start of the pandemic!
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
If it could be anyone… it would be Chris Martin!
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
Definitely so many, I could write a book about them! From performing at the Dutch Embassy in London to an audience of diplomats from all over the world… to singing at an event where as well as performing, they made me host the whole night (wearing devil horns as it was Halloween)… to playing at the local pub while everyone was watching the tennis match, and the last thing they wanted was live music!
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
I hope my music moves you 🙂
