What was the inspiration behind the EP?
The Wild One EP was inspired by the fan base I’d grown from touring the UK Pride circuit. Hearing their inspirational and sometimes heartbreaking coming out journeys, really resonated with me and made me want to release a bundle of songs that they can relate to! Wild One the title track was solely inspired by coming out and standing up as minorities. There’s also a track on there called Someone that my fans really loved, they chant it back to me at shows. That song was actually inspired by my lack of a love life, challenges of dating in the LGBTQ+ community at a young age and my empowerment in being single. I definitely think that’s a stand out from the album for my fans.
How long did the album or EP take to create from start to finish?
The first song I worked on in the studio was actually Wild One, we did that back in November 2017! I remember it well because in the same day I met Kesha. Then the last song I recorded was Under The Sheets in April 2018.
Which track was written first?
I think Flames on the Runway was actually the first song I wrote technically, I wrote that in early 2017 and had no plans in putting it on Wild One, I was actually writing it in mind for a Drag Race queen but I ended up keeping it for myself.
Do you have any personal favourite tracks?
I honestly love them all for very different reasons, I feel very proud of that EP as a whole. Lyrically Wild One and Someone are my favourites.
Were any tracks difficult to write?
I’d probably say Wild One was the most difficult to write because it wasn’t my usual catchy Britney vibe, it was more emotional. Normally I write songs within like 10 minutes but that one definitely took longer.
What do you have coming up in the next 12 months?
So I’m working on my next EP, I have been for a while. After I released Wild One I popped out a few singles, one being Independent B**ch with Aja (Drag Race US) which is definitely my most well known release. Then I’d started working on my new album at the start of 2020 but when we went into lockdown I couldn’t get in the studio, I couldn’t tour so everything came to a stand still for a long time for me and I really suffered mentally. I couldn’t write because I was so lost, until about 6 months later I wrote Drinking Away My Problems and it was the biggest wake up call ever. I was able to get back in the studio to pick up from where I left off and I released Drinking Away My Problems in early 2021 after a whole year off. I then re-released my song Make a Scene with Divina De Campo (Drag Race UK) this summer while being able to perform at some of the Prides that were able to go ahead which honestly felt like the missing puzzle piece to getting back to myself. Since then I’ve been co-writing a lot which is new for me but I’m having the best time. I have some fun collabs coming out in the new year and then when the time’s right I’ll drop the new EP.
