What was the inspiration behind the album?
The album talks a lot about my experience of being a disabled person in the UK. Songs such as Day In/Day Out reveal the day to day of my life with Fibromyalgia and M.E., with the chorus including the line “I made plans but my body made other plans” and album opener Part A muses “I just want a part to feel myself again”. It’s very personal and the music is a representation of how I was feeling during this time.
Did the pandemic have an impact when recording the album?
It impacted it a lot. I was used to being at home most of the time but the pandemic has certainly isolated me a lot further, even still now. I still can’t go and play live and that became apparent at a certain point while making the album. It was freeing and certainly had more time to create, but being scared isn’t great for my creativity so it was hard work at times.
How long did the album take to create from start to finish?
I probably started to write not too long into the initial lockdown 2020 and finished it during the summer. It was certainly done in chunks, depending on how I was.
Which track was written first?
Quite Right was probably the first inside lockdown, I think you can kind of hear the darkness and depression in it.
Do you have any personal favourite tracks?
Day In/Day Out, because it says a lot of things that I have never been able to articulate before about my illness and the grinding nature of it, cancelling plans and spending all my days inside.
Were any tracks difficult to write?
Quite Right was difficult because of the timing and what i’m talking about in the track I think..
