What was the inspiration behind the album?
The Calm and The Storm is a collection of songs which portray the ups and downs of life. Sometimes it’s rough, and sometimes it’s plain sailing, but the weather never sticks around for long.
Did the pandemic have an impact when recording the album?
The pandemic gave us time to focus on selecting the songs and write some new ones and explore creating in a different way.
How long did the album take to create from start to finish?
About a year to actually record and get it to ‘print’. But these songs have been brewing for years, it’s been great to revisit some of them and change up the instrumentation which I feel has really elevated them.
Which track was written first?
Well The Rain is one of the first songs I wrote properly as a whole song and have performed it at most of the gigs I’ve ever played. It has come a long way since then, and now with my band behind me, it has a whole new sense of meaning.
Do you have any personal favourite tracks?
I think the newer songs at the moment feel more exciting to me as they’ve not been played as much or listened to by audiences. I am really excited to share them and see what their reactions are, songs like I’m All Sugar and Spaghetti.
What do you have coming up in the next 12 months?
Our album release show coincides with the album’s physical release on the 7th April 2023. We will be playing a host of festival shows and then some dates in the autumn.
