What was the inspiration behind the album?
This album was a collection of tracks I has recorded since 2019, including the singles ‘Move On’, ‘I Don’t Need’, ‘Doing It For You’ and ‘Out Of My Head’.
I drew a wide range of inspiration into the album’s songs with tracks such as ‘Doing It For You’ being inspired by contemporary country acts like Florida Georgia Line and tracks like ‘Mistakes’ and ‘Move On’ being inspired by Alternative Pop.
At the halfway point of the album you’ll find ‘Balancing Books’ which is a lot more folky in style – this leans a lot closer to my earliest songs.
Did the pandemic have an impact when recording the album?
The day that the lockdown was announced I was in the studio putting the final touches down on ‘Paint The Walls’ and my producer and I had to work at pace to get it finished as we knew we wouldn’t be able to do anything for a while afterwards. We then couldn’t get into the studio for several months to record the next tracks.
How long did the album take to create from start to finish?
In total it took about 3 years to record all of the songs on the album.
Which track was written first?
‘Sunset’ was written first and was also the earliest song (that I’ve released at least) that I ever wrote.
Do you have any personal favourite tracks?
‘Move On’ is a bit of a personal favourite as I had a great time really going for it on the vocals. I also had a blast working on the collabs ‘Doing It For You’ and ‘Out Of My Head’.
Were any tracks difficult to write?
‘Mistakes’ was tricky but fun to write, this was because it was the first time I had tried writing a song of a different genre.
What do you have coming up in the next 12 months?
I have some new singles in the work, including a collaboration with Isle Of Wight based Chasing Scarlett.
