What was the inspiration behind the EP?
Out of Babylon is a collection of songs rooted in themes of faith, hope and love. The title comes from the recognition that though there may be seasons of difficulty in life, there is always a road out of Babylon.
How long did the EP take to create from start to finish?
Work began on the Out of Babylon Sessions in the middle of 2016 with producer Phil d’Alton at Hillhouse Studio in Northern Ireland. A selection of singles (Alright This Time, Miracle and A Wee Bit of Something) were released in 2018, leading up to the release of the full EP in January 2019.
Which track was written first?
Though it was the final track to be released, the song Broadway Lights dates back as far as 2009 when I was playing coffee shop gigs around Belfast. It stood the rest of time and was revisited for the EP, remaining one of my favourite songs to play to this day.
Do you have any personal favourite tracks?
The track ‘A Wee Bit of Something’ was written about my home city of Belfast. It’s about being willing to find hope, even amongst difficult circumstances and believing that there is always the possibility for change.
What do you have coming up in the next 12 months?
Since ‘Out of Babylon’ I have released a bunch of singles – ‘Upon The Shore’ (2019), ‘Little Darlin’ (2020), ‘Normal People’ (2021) and ‘Hope Will Find Its Way’ (2021).
I have spent much of this last year writing and recording new music which will see the light of day very soon!
