What was the inspiration behind the EP?
Just to write good songs, that’s the inspiration really with any writer and those were the best four songs I had at that time that worked together as a body of work. It was nothing to do with Elvis! Ha!
Did the pandemic have an impact when recording the EP?
No, just playing live is where the impact was. Writing was a time of casual songwriting, because we didn’t know when we were going to come out of it so there was no pressure trying to build a live set.
How long did the EP take to create from start to finish?
I think I wrote the title track ‘you’re no elvis’ back end of 2020? and the others came early 2021. The completed EP was out in July 2021.
Which track was written first?
The title track, and it came from a gig when a bloke came up to me at the end and I said the usual ‘thanks for coming’ to which he said ‘no probs pal I was ok, I mean you’re no elvis, but it was ok’. It’s support like that that keeps me going ha ha!
Do you have any personal favourite tracks?
As a body of work it’s up there with my best stuff, but it has to be ‘Waiting For Flowers’ it seems to be a favourite with everyone really, I end my current set with it played in a very different way but it seems to work, and people really like it…..hopefully?
Were any tracks difficult to write?
If the become difficult, I put the pen down and bin it, it’s got to be natural but if it becomes a struggle, I bin it!
What do you have coming up in the next 12 months?
Release wise I have my 5-track EP ‘Folk Devil’ released in November. I’ll be doing a launch night in Bridlington for it. It’ll be available on CD that night.
Genre: Melodic guitar, pop
Released: 18th July 2021
