Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with Southampton band Myriad to find out more…
Who is in the band, how did you meet and where are you from?
David, Jared, OJ and Rai. We met at uni through our course – we were put together but have stayed as a band for 7 years now! We started music by listening to our favourite records from our friends and family – classic 00s bangers like The Kooks, Arctic Monkeys and Kaiser Chiefs etc.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
Bands like The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, Catfish and the Bottlemen have always been staples, as well as rock bands such as Guns n Roses influence our sound (though we aren’t heavy!).
How would you describe your sound?
Hooky, guitary, indie rock.
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
“Getting Started” is about renewing with someone you’ve had a turbulent history with, experiencing the honeymoon phase all over again, even though they have led you on in the past, and you know it’s probably not going to end well.
Dripping with indie sounds, with the newest leaving you humming “Yeah, we’re just getting started”, the indie 4-piece new single blends clean modern indie influences with classic 00s indie rock.
FFO: Catfish and the Bottlemen, Arctic Monkeys, Sea Girls.
What’s your local music scene like?
Amazing! We always support other artists at Heartbreakers, The Joiners and other local venues, as well as playing supports and headline shows (including the one that’s coming on the 16th March).
What do you have planned for the next 12 months?
Our new E.P (Move to LA), confirmed festival (IOW Festival, Teddy Rocks) and lots of big headline shows around the UK.
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
We’d love to collaborate with Paul McCartney or Sam Fender.
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
Our first headline show David tripped over the bass drum mic that we spent 10 minutes getting in the perfect position.
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
That we represent you through our music.
