Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with London/Surrey artist Sophie Feriani to find out more…
Where are you from and how did you first get into music?
I was born and raised in London but my parents are originally from Tunisia. I began my journey in music by taking piano lessons at four and singing at school events. I started to take music more seriously in 2021.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
Growing up my biggest musical influence was Taylor Swift, my go-to karaoke song would always be ’22’. Now as I have begun to expand my main influence is Sabrina Carpenter but other artists who play a major role in my direction are Dua Lipa, Tate Mcrae, and Anne Marie.
How would you describe your sound?
A soft mix between pop/R&B. I have experimented a little within the dance and liquid drum and base world but my identifying sound is found through pop and R&B.
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
Blood On My Hands. It was written in the summer and was inspired by the idea of falling for someone that you know you should not.
What’s your local music scene like?
As I am based in central London primarily, the music scene is pretty large and busy which is amazing. I am able to meet so many new people and work with a number of artists and producers.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months?
I have a single dropping at the end of March and I am planning to continue releasing singles to lead up to the EP I will be releasing at the end of 2024. Alongside this, I have several live shows booked around London, and in Summer I will be playing at Priory Live Festival.
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
My dream collaboration would be with Sabrina Carpenter but when thinking of other small artists within my local area I would also love to collaborate with NEVE.
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
The music I make is created to resonate with my audience and I am trying to build an intimate relationship between us.
