Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with London band 4FOXSAKE to find out more…
Who is in the band, how did you meet, where are you from and how did you come up with the name?
The band is comprised of Marios Patsalosavis on vocals and guitar, Augustin Bellay on guitar, Mickael Blanchet on bass and Elias Da Silva on drums.
All 4 of us met at the pub after we just come out of separate musical projects. Literally, a Cypriot, 2 Frenchmen and a Portuguese walked into a bar…
At first, we thought of calling ourselves 4foreigners or 4foreign, and even had a logo “”4F”” which we thought looked quite cool… but the names were terrible.
After a brainstorming session and ending up with nothing, frustration built and the following happened: “”Oh for f***sake, OH OH for fox sake! YES YES””
4FOXSAKE was born!
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
All 4 of us are 90s early 2000’s kids we basked in the sounds of Green Day, System of a Down, Sum 41, Offspring, Linkin Park, Rammstein, Muse, Metallica, Nirvana, GnR, Queen.
As we grew as musicians we went back to the roots of Rock, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, The Beatles, Scorpions, Simon & Garfunkel.
How would you describe your sound?
Riffs meet solos, meet melodic anthemic vocals.
The longer version is a mixture of punk rock energy mixed with heavy metal solos and hard rock riffs.
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
Our latest release is Pushing 30.
Musically it is a mix between an acoustic ballad and a high-energy hard rock/punk rock song.
Thematically… Is there anything more relatable than the feeling that you are not enough?
Peer and social media pressure can take a heavy toll on one’s mindset as you approach the dreaded landmark of 30 years – but we are not the kind to lay down and take it and we encourage our listeners to shut out the negativity, look only ahead and show the world that life does not stop there!
What’s your local music scene like?
We are based in London which is both a blessing and a curse. Whilst there are lots of opportunities to gig and lots of great bands to play with… it is hard for upcoming bands to make their place as there is no real rock community present. It’s overcrowded and a real effort for bands and fans to attend an event. We find our best gigs and experiences to be outside of London. In particular, after just a few gigs in Nottingham people have taken notice and our name comes up in conversations with invites for us to come back and play.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months?
Tours, new music and a whole lot of mayhem! We have our first full-length album scheduled for release in Autumn with singles leading up to it.
We have a tour in Brittany scheduled for May which closes with a performance at the brand-new Breizh Camden Festival near Rennes where they expect up to 12,000 people.
On the 5th of October, we will be playing at the Camden Club in London for our album release party!
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
Not really at this stage. We are happy doing our own thing and getting our stuff out there.
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
We played the Power Rangers theme song after losing a bet with a friend of ours. To be fair we were just looking for an excuse to do so.
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
We are one of the most fun live bands that you can go see at the moment!
There is more to live performance than playing the music and when we get on stage we bring the energy to the highest level!
