Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with County Durham artist Caitie to find out more…
Where are you from and how did you first get into music?
I am from a northern steel town based in County Durham. Originally, I started out in musical theatre but soon discovered song-writing in my teens when I used it for therapy. I have listened to pop artists for years and always dreamt of having an audience that would sing along to my songs because they relate.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
Growing up I listened to so many pop stars including Jessie J, Taylor Swift, Rita Ora, Katy Perry and Rihanna. I can say they are all still a huge influence on my music style but recently I have been listening to lots of Bellah Mae, Mimi Webb, Tate McRae and Zara Larsson. A huge influence I’ve had since the start and still to this day is James Arthur because he is so honest and raw with his music and I love that.
How would you describe your sound?
Pop influences by 80s power pop.
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
‘Tragic’ was a musical journey inspired by a fairytale friendship, shattered by the harsh realities of teenage school popularity. ’Tragic’ sees my sound move into a musical space full of ambient soundscapes and a palette pulled from 80s power pop.
What’s your local music scene like?
There is lots of incredible artists in the north-east music scene and I can see how supportive it can be. Some who I have loved following recently is HUNNI, Becca James and Holly Rolfe.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months?
I have some more music coming from my debut EP ‘Electric Blue’ and I can’t wait for this chapter. I am also back in the studio writing some new material which is also so exciting.
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
JAMES ARTHUR OF COURSE!!
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
My dream is to find people who understand my music and perform it to them live.
