Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with Leicester artist Prianca RA to find out more…
Where are you from and how did you first get into music?
Began songwriting and making my own songs, collaborating with music producers in 2020 – I was diagnosed with PTSD and had depression and anxiety throughout my teen years. Creating songs helped me and gave me a healthy way of expressing what I was going through. Wrote music about PTSD how it felt to me (being on a Spacecraft and alienated from the outside world) as illustrated in my debut single SPACECRAFT BURNOUT. Received positive feedback and now working on promoting my debut album following my recent release of up tempo soft rock song they think I’m the devil (threats from their devil.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
Growing up:
Michael Jackson
Aretha Franklin
Now:
XXXTentacion
The Weeknd
Taylor Swift (massive Swiftie)
Nirvana
Kendrick Lamar
Atif Aslam
A.R Rahman
ZAYN
Halsey
How would you describe your sound?
Transformative, experimental, ambient, fusion.
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
they think i’m the devil (threats from their devil) – listened to a lot of soft rock and hard electric guitar sounds, I thought it would be a good way to express anger inside of me. Also wanted to create a monster-type sound through sound distortion and pitch changes.
What’s your local music scene like?
Leicester has its own music scene but it’s not the biggest in UK. Leicester is a very Cosmopolitan city and promoted local talent. There is opportunity to perform at Open Mic events and hold music events as well as summer festivals. I haven’t performed in a while but if the opportunity arose I would perform in Leicester again. My main goal is to perform in other cities first where there is a bigger crowd and more exposure eg. Liverpool, Birmingham and London.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months?
Preparing the final stages of the album and planning the pre-launch event.
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
Olly Alexander from Years & Years.
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
Don’t have any to tell as haven’t performed in a while. Last time I performed for my cousin’s engagement party, there’s footage of me reacting to a sound system glitch. I wear my expressions on my face which make people laugh but I can’t help it!!
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
I am REAL. I talk about real stuff and I am a normal 27-year-old… to an extent haha I have my weird quirks. I have a gift of storytelling which moves people and it’s all based on my life experiences which are relatable.
