Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with Dundee band Red Vanilla to find out more…
Who is in the band, how did you meet, where are you from and how did you come up with the name?
We have 4 members, Lucas Drummer, George lead guitar, Anna vocals/rhythm guitar and Sam bassist. We are from Dundee and we all met online. We came up with the name because the singer Anna and guitarist George both liked the word “Vanilla” and thought a colour going in front of it could be cool!
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
Growing up it would be for Anna – Paramore and Biffy Clyro, for George it would be The Killers and Red Hot Chili Peppers, for Lucas it would be Rage Against the Machine and The Prodigy and for Sam it would be Queen and The Doors. Influences now for the band would be Wolf Alice, Foo Fighters and Pixies.
How would you describe your sound?
We have a sound that is very 90s Alternative Rock songwriting based but has a very modern sound that takes notes from Modern Metal producing.
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
Our new EP is called “Days of Grey”, it has a variety of tracks on it and the influences for the tracks are from Wolf Alice and Foo Fighters and Pixies.
What’s your local music scene like?
Our local music scene is very varied sound wise, there’s a lot of great bands!
What do you have planned for the next 12 months?
We have some great gigs coming up, we’re planning on recording our next EP too!
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
There’s a lot of great bands we’d love to support! Wolf Alice and Foo Fighters are the dream!
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
We have all made our mistakes on stage, George our guitarist had a total mind blank for a guitar part and made a huge mess hahaha.
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
That we’re one of the hardest working bands you could meet.
