Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with London based artist SATRE to find out more…
Where are you from and how did you first get into music?
I’m born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. I’ve been doing music since the age of 7 which is about 21 years ago. I was always drawn to music and performing. The idea of being able to express yourself with such a powerful tool as music was very appealing to me from a young age. When I started showing an interest in music I was gifted my late auntie’s guitar who’d been very dear to hear. I think I inherited her love for music somehow by being gifted that guitar.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
I’ve always loved any type of music that contains strong and colorful melodies. I loved Hard Rock/Metal music when I was younger. The confidence and power in the music attracted me. As I grew older I got more into Folk/Indie music which I’d consider to be my main genre now. I admire Bon Iver a lot in pretty much every single way. From the music, aesthetic and their constant work with different charities.
How would you describe your sound?
I would describe my sound as euphoric and colorful. I try my very best to write about subjects that are not as common in popular music. It’s not easy but I’m constantly trying.
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
My latest release is called ‘homebound’ it’s an uplifting song about the people in your life who makes you feel like you’re home no matter where in the world you are.
What’s your local music scene like?
The London music scene is very intense and competitive. However, I love it. I’ve met friends for life through music and no matter what happens with my career it feels like it’s all worth it because of these people.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months?
I’m going to consistently be releasing songs. The idea is to put these songs together as an EP and celebrate this with a headline show in London and Paris.
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
I’m working on my first ever collaboration project with my friend and producer ‘Atticus Blue’ this project will hopefully see the light of day sometime next year.
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
I’m a full time street performer. So there are many. Once there was a couple who walked past me on a really quiet day. I thought I recognized one of them but I couldn’t leave my gear to chase them to confirm. I later got to know that the man was Ringo Starr of The Beatles and his partner.
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
That the goal with my music is to create a safe and judgment-free community. When I started music I was bullied at school and sometimes I felt that music was my only friend. I want the people listening to my music to know that it can be a friend to them whenever they’re in need of one.
Upcoming live dates and performances
No upcoming gigs but always performing on the streets of central London.
