What was the inspiration behind the EP?
I wanted to collaborate with a few artists and producers who could remix each track from my debut self-produced EP ‘Modern Artifice’ that I released last November. I chose producers with different styles and gave them the freedom to each develop one of the tracks from the EP in their own style and interpretation, some of which create music in styles such as cinematic electronica, hyperpop, orchestral dark soul and more, and to see what the final outcome would be like with the tracks all together. It’s been wonderful to see how brilliantly each track fits together in the project as a whole, despite none of the producers having heard the other tracks during the remixing process.
How long did the EP take to create from start to finish?
I started approaching artists to remix my debut EP around about the time of its release and after in Autumn 2023 and further into early 2024 – with the final tracks being received in the summer! The project was then mastered by Charlie Francis of Synergy Mastering, and then released to the world on the 27th September 2024.
Which track was written first?
Most of the tracks were all being remixed simultaneously by each of the producers, but the first track I heard was ‘Sad Girls (Luna Tunes Remix)’, which was heavily inspired by artists such as CHVRCHES.
Do you have any personal favourite tracks?
I can’t possibly have a favourite! I have so much love for each of the remixes individually, and they span a variety of interesting genres and styles that they’re incomparable. It’s been wonderful to see how much care and detail has gone into the creation by Luna (Luna Tunes), Annie (Austel), Steve (The Warden) and Stacy (sorry stacy) individually, and I’m honoured that they’ve all been so keen to be involved in this project.
What do you have coming up in the next 12 months?
I had a gig on Tuesday 1st October which was the first time I’ve incorporated another live musician into performing the music I’ve been releasing as part of this project in the last few years – an electric double bass! My aim is to expand the line up to include a guitar, and potentially a drummer… so lots of workshopping and experimenting with sounds and the live show. I’m also writing new music in adjacent genres, developing further the folktronica and trip hop vibes that I’ve been exploring recently.
