What was the inspiration behind the EP?
Chrysalis is the breaking free from the caterpillar stage to chrysalis to the adult Butterfly where we spread our wings and fly. The EP represents growth over the years as a musician as well as a person. The subject matter and maturity of Benny Bizzie is evident and a sure sign of evolution. Chrysalis was created to let others see that they are not alone in the early stages of self discovery. We all have to start somewhere as it’s the nature of life.
Did the pandemic have an impact when recording the EP?
Not entirely as this was written after the pandemic and it’s almost a reflection and a perspective on where I was at the time regarding growth.
How long did the EP take to create from start to finish?
About a year or so, as I can be quite the perfectionist. I am good at knowing when it’s time to stop fiddling around with the tracks and there’s nothing more to add or remove.
Which track was written first?
Window Frame was the first track to be written. I remember pulling the blinds one morning and the strong waves of light coming through literally inspired the song.
Do you have any personal favourite tracks?
I sing ‘On the Double’ a lot. It reminds me of never running out of love and kindness and always knowing there’s plenty where that came from. It’s like my metaphor for life.
Were any tracks difficult to write?
Erm… Player was hard to get right instrumentally. It was only when I teamed up with Simon Brown and hired in Bassist Darren Franklin (Lola Young) that it all started to come together. It’s a song that has a few revisions.
What do you have coming up in the next 12 months?
Putting together an Human Project.
Genre: R&B / Hip Hop
Released: 29th July 2022
