Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with Dublin artist Taylor D to find out more…
Where are you from and how did you first get into music?
I’m from Dublin Ireland. I showed an interest in music at age 12 and began taking guitar lessons. At age 13 I started to write my own songs and at age 14 I released my first song and got my first radio airplay.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
As a child I was very interested in commercial pop music, so Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran. Now my music taste is more diverse and I find myself listening to more pop/rock like The Arctic Monkeys and Green Day.
How would you describe your sound?
My songs are pop/rock with catchy lyrical hooks and booming beats.
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
My latest release is ‘Lost To London ‘. The storyline was inspired by recent trips to the vibrant city and finding love there. The Sound is influenced by artists like Paramore and Avril Lavigne.
What’s your local music scene like?
I live in the capital of Dublin so there’s lots of open mics and showcases around town. I’ve been lucky to connect with other artists this year which in turn led to support slots for me.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months?
I’m currently studying commercial modern music at BIMM college of music Dublin where I hope to improve on my craft, meet like minded people and learn more about the music industry.
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
I’ve always said Ed Sheeran from a young age and I was very fortunate to have met and chatted to him recently and he was such a genuine person and I would imagine he’s a pleasure to work with.
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
I was performing at a well known venue in Dublin one night and mid set a very drunk customer tried to steal my guitar.
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
I’m a hard worker. I give 100% to my music and I’m very grateful to anyone who offers support.
