Every Monday we will be bringing you interviews with UK or Ireland artists for Independent Music Monday. Recently we caught up with Durham artist Rogue FX to find out more…
Where are you from and how did you first get into music?
I’m from the North East of England, I first got into music at school. Way back in the 80s when I saved up my lunch money to buy a synth.
Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
Growing up my influences were Bowie and electronic synth pop such as Pet Shop Boys, New Order and Depeche Mode. I have still retained those influences today, mixed dance music influences from the 90s.
How would you describe your sound?
I would describe my Rogue FX sound as Danceable Synthpop. I also have a side project with ARPRAXIS called Liquid Soul which is a melting pot of funk electro soul house and synthpop.
What is your latest release called and what was the influence behind it?
My latest release is called Endgame Dance, it’s a remix Ep based on dance mixes of 4 of the tracks from the Endgame album that came out in the summer. We have four tracks reimagined by producers Dilemmachine, Perfect Female Type, Silvr Sage and energie berator.
What’s your local music scene like?
There is a local music scene in the North East that is quite rock based but there is still a healthy electronic scene too.
What do you have planned for the next 12 months?
I’ve just released a debut EP for my side project with a producer called ARPRAXIS which was well received so would like to do another of those for Rogue FX. I will work on a few singles initially in first part of 2026 before deciding on whether to go for another album or an EP. I’ll also be working on some remixes for other artists and keeping my record label FiloFX Records releases going. It’s going to be another busy year I think 🙂
Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
I’d love to collaborate with some of my 80s heroes but it’s probably unlikely.
Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
I’m very much a studio project now but back in the 90s with my dance music outfit Bass Value we had a full power cut in the venue so attempted a full crowd acapella version of the tracks (not easy) until we got power back which luckily was only a few minutes.
What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
George Harrison of the Beatles fame once wrote me a note complimenting me on my song writing and I lost the note in a house move.
