What was the inspiration behind the album?
Let The Light In is a culmination of years spent waiting for the right time, of mothering small children and smaller musical motifs. Although the songs have been written over the last few years, you can hear in them my evolution from a delicate, Chopin-loving girl to the fierce, adventurous artist I am today. The themes of my songs involve ageing, motherhood, womanhood, the grief of letting go and the constant search for solid ground when you’ve been uprooted. But as I share some of my fears and insecurities, I am also sharing the beauty and consolation I find in nature, and the things that bring me peace and joy.
Did the pandemic have an impact when recording the album?
No.
How long did the album take to create from start to finish?
About two years, although I have been dreaming for a long time…
Which track was written first?
Shiver, which I released as a single in 2023, and re-recorded for the album.
Do you have any personal favourite tracks?
Like choosing a favourite child! But I must admit that “Birdlude”, which I wrote as a transition track between two songs, has become a source of much love and joy quite unexpectedly.
Were any tracks difficult to write?
Trembling Earth, which is a song about grief, was a challenging track to finish, and to arrange. I wanted to make sure it maintained its gravity, whilst also not becoming too dark.
What do you have coming up in the next 12 months?
After the launch I am looking to get out there playing and promoting the album, and meeting new people along the way.
