What was the inspiration behind the EP?
These three songs tell the tale of a fleeting romance, at three very different stages, from the warm, happy, euphoria of moving with new feelings, to the loneliness of heartbreak, and finally the acceptance of those feelings.
How long did the EP take to create from start to finish?
The songs themselves were written fairly quickly, I find often that I’ll have a long period of not being able to write anything, and then inspiration comes and I can write a whole song in half an hour! The journey of the songs happened over the period of a couple of weeks, and then the lengthy process (as always) was the production. I’m still very much learning how to produce music and so for me that process is intertwined with lots of research, too. I think this took around 3 months.
Which track was written first?
Because this EP tells a story, the tracks are all listed in chronological order, so the first track to be written was As We Are Tonight.
Do you have any personal favourite tracks?
My favourite track is If I Were To Die Tomorrow – because it’s sweet and lighthearted and really fun to play. Plus it holds a lot of beautiful memories for me – as I was writing it I was spending some time camping with a beloved community, and by the end of the season, friends had learned the lyrics and would sing along with me around the campfire.
Were any tracks difficult to write?
Not really – because all these tracks came from quite strong emotions, I found the writing process to be pretty smooth.
What do you have coming up in the next 12 months?
Excitingly, I have just finished writing my next album!! So over the next 12 months I will be working on bringing that to life and into the real world. I’m super excited for this one, as it’s my biggest project yet and is gonna involve many beautiful creative collaborations.
