What was the inspiration behind the EP?
An experimental soft-rock project made with 60’s recording techniques – all live instruments, no click track/metronome, recorded in mono, mixed to an 8-track format.
I was listening to The Beatles and studying 60’s recording techniques. I limited the recording and mixing to this as much as I could as a way of experimenting with the impact of creativity on limitations.
12 other musicians were recruited to play drums, bass, guitars, brass, winds, and strings. Structure, arrangement, co-songwriting, piano/keyboards, production, mixing and mastering by me. Marcus Smith, a previous collaborator, wrote and performed all the vocals and was a joy to work with conceptually.
Did the pandemic have an impact when recording the EP?
No.
How long did the EP take to create from start to finish?
10 months on and off.
Which track was written first?
Rosie’s Ballad.
Do you have any personal favourite tracks?
Little More Lovin’.
Were any tracks difficult to write?
Foxy-Blue which ended up being an instrumental because of this.
What do you have coming up in the next 12 months?
Since releasing Loose Time I’ve spent the past two years working as an engineer in London at The Recording Studio London. I’ve just recently moved back to Ireland with a lot of experience and dozens of credits for work as an engineer and producer. I’m looking to continue working as a studio engineer in Ireland and will be looking for opportunities in the near future, as well as working remotely for regular clients. I’m hoping to also begin writing my third EP soon.
Genre: Soft-rock, 60’s rock, psychedelic rock
Released: 23rd February 2024
